Professional Glycolics

    INSPIRE THE SKIN YOU'RE IN

    Cosmeceutical Application:
The skin rejuvenates itself by its own natural process by exfoliating the outer layer of old dead skin cells and replacing them with healthy new ones. As we age, the rate of exfoliation slows down significantly, and the old dry dead cells accumulate on the skin surface. By removing the outer layer of dead cells with glycolic acid solutions, the new cells are exposed thereby improving the appearance and texture of the skin.

At 4 weeks, clients will start to see improvement and optimal results are achieved by weeks 8-12. One needs to continue with nightly application of a night cream containing 8-10% glycolic acid. Free acid concentration.

The higher the free acid concentration, the better. (more H+ ions available) Unbuffered glycolic acid is best but requires experience.

    Introduction to Alpha Hydroxy Peels

    What is glycolic acid?
Glycolic acid is a naturally occurring substance derived from sugar cane. It is a small molecule that can penetrate the upper 3-4 layers of the skin by virtue of its small size. It is an alpha hydroxy acid

How does glycolic acid help the skin?
Glycolic acid is a chemical exfoliant, which weakens the attachments or glue between the dead skin cells. It uses the upper layers of the stratum corneum to lift off and separate from the underlying layer. With removal of the upper most layer of skin, a smoother, softer skin is revealed. Glycolic acid speeds up the renewal process and texturizes the skin. Glycolic acid stimulates the production of collagen and elastin in the dermis, thereby improving sun damage and wrinkling.

    Effectiveness of glycolic acid pH:
The lower the pH and the higher the free acid concentration, the greater the exfoliation. Ideal is 2.5-5.0
